High School Scholarship Fund

Starting in 2017, Healing the Children Northeast established a Medical Career Scholarship to give back to our local community. This annual scholarship is awarded to New Milford High School seniors who plan to pursue a career in the medical field.

2026 High School Scholarship

HTCNE’s Domestic Kids Program offers an annual Medical Career Scholarship to New Milford High School seniors who plan to pursue a career in the medical field.

On May 29, Board Member Steve Nargiso presented the three 2026 Scholarships to Kendall Evans, Sarah Da Silva & Xenia Rivera.

Kendall is attending Sacred Heart University for Neuroscience & Physician Assistant, Dual Degree Program, Sarah is committed to Western Connecticut State University for nursing, and Xenia is pursuing nursing at Misericordia University.

2025 Domestic Kids Scholarship

2025 Scholarships were awarded to Saverio Amelio, Madison McKelvey & Gabriel Larsen. Saverio is committed to the University of Connecticut majoring in nursing, Madison is attending Southern Connecticut State University for neonatal nursing and Gabriel is attending the University of Connecticut for molecular and cellular biology with a pre-medicine track.

2024 Scholarships were awarded to:

Hannah Seo, Leo Mahlke and Grace Miller

Hannah is committed to Gordon College for Health Sciences

Leo is attending Vassar College for Cognitive Science with a focus on Linguistics

Grace is attending the University of Connecticut majoring in Pathobiology.

The 2023 scholarship recipients are: Noura Tazi who will be attending UCONN majoring in Speech and Hearing Sciences to become a Speech Pathologist, Olivia Ann Zeitler who will be attending DeSales University for the Accelerated Direct-Entry 3+2 Physician Assistant Program, and Sania Toprani who will be attending Northeastern University for Behavioral Neuroscience on a pre-med track.

In 2022, HTCNE awarded scholarships to 3 seniors at New Milford High School who are pursuing a career in the medical field.

Recipients are:
Sara Marie Brescia –  Physician Assistant / specialty – surgical
Kelsey Nicole Stewart – Occupational Therapy
Cassandra Allison Giancaspro – Human Biology and Psychology

2021 Scholarships were awarded to Nathan Lawson, Amanda Tesoriero and Isabella Luis. Nathan is committed to the University of Delaware majoring in exercise science and physical therapy, Amanda is attending Fairfield University for nursing and Isabella is attending Shenandoah University majoring in biology and aims to become a Physician Assistant. 

2020 New Milford High School Scholarship Winners

2019 Scholarship Recipients:

Three students were selected who are furthering their education in nursing. Each has been awarded $500.00 to help with their education.  These are their names and the schools where they will enter the nursing programs:

William Stanton – Western Connecticut State University
Emily Thompson – Southern Connecticut State University
Alessandra Prontelli – University of Tampa Florida

2018 Scholarships were awarded to Julia Quinn, Juliana Sopko and Bailey Walsh.

Julia is enrolled in the honors program at the University of Connecticut and is in the pre-med program majoring in the biological sciences

Juliana  hopes to become a physician and is attending University of Massachussets in Amherst MA

Bailey is attending the University of Rhode Island.  Because of an illness she had in her teens, she has decided to pursue a career in nursing.

2017 scholarships were awarded to Kelly Flynn and Morgan Melendez who will be continuing their education to become nurses.

Kelly is studying to be a nurse and when asked to share her life goals with the class, she confidently stated, “My biggest goal in life is to one day be a nurse.”  Kelly has shadowed a nurse at a nearby hospital and will be a Certified Nursing Assistant soon. She will be attending Western CT State University as a nursing major.

Morgan will also enter the nursing profession.  She is currently working as a Certified Nurse Assistant and was hired by the Nursing Home where she completed her clinical experience.  Morgan is a leader in her class and always willing to help others with mastering the skills necessary to pass the Connecticut State Nurse Assistant exam. Morgan will attend Quinnipiac University and major in nursing.
